Washington DC: Another incident of mass shooting occurred in the United States. This time some Sikh people have been killed in a shooting that took place at a FedEx facility at Indianapolis in the United States. Now, this was yet another mass shooting in which about eight people lost their lives.
A leader of the local Sikh community who spoke with the families of those killed has said that "out of the eight, four were Sikh community members and the other three of them were women".
Now according to the community members, thousands of Sikh Americans live in Indiana and the FedEx operations center near the city's international airport is also known for providing employment to all the members of the Sikh community, especially those who do not speak fluent English.
An estimated 500 000 Sikhs live in the united states, the Sikh Coalition is expecting the authorities to conduct a full investigation including the possibility of racial biases as a factor in this attack.
India's external affairs minister S.jaishankar of course tweeted and has expressed his shock over the incident. He also informed the Indian consulate to get in touch with the authorities and also with the community leaders in Indiana.
The police meanwhile FBI's Indiana police special agent paul Keenan has said that it would be premature to speculate the motive of the gunman who was said to be, a 19-year-old caucasian young man also a former FedEx employee now been detained for mental illness.
The police have refused to describe this as an act of terror, Now U.S president Joe Biden has called the U.S firearms debts a national embarrassment. Biden has called on Congress to ban military-style assault firearms as there have been 147 mass shootings in just the first three months of the year 2021.
The massacre is the most recent one in a series of u.s mass shootings that has again pushed the issue of gun violence to the political foreground. Also In the middle of March, eight people were shot dead at three different spars in Atlanta.
Earlier this month u.s president Joe Biden had announced six executive measures against gun violence.
